Welcome Back

Milestones

First post since deciding to do this blog only once a month!

And boy, that was a good decision. At times before, the blog felt like a chore which is not what I want at all - I want everything related to my writing journey to bring me joy. Not only did spacing this out help that, but it freed up some time for me to continue writing my WIP instead.

And that, my friends, was the best thing ever because I can finally announce that I’ve finished the first (very rough) draft of book one!!!

And when I say it’s very rough, I mean it’s verrrrrryyyyyy rough. There are so many plot holes - and to be honest, they are more like plot craters at this point. But it’s done! I’ve even drafted the plot notes for books two and three (right now I am planning for this story I’m telling to be a trilogy) to help me, not only when going forward, but when I’m editing and rewriting  this first draft. In addition to my WIP, I’ve also been devoting more time to worldbuilding (a lot more time, actually) since a great deal of my plot holes center around discrepancies in the world I’ve created. I bought a giant sketch pad and once I’ve settled some of the more major aspects, I’m going to create this huge, major chart to guide me through (I freaking love charts).

Another thing I plan on focusing on during the review process is getting inside my characters heads more. I do feel like I know them so much better at this point and that I’ve developed a distinct voice for each of them. But I want more. I wanna be besties. I wanna handcuff us all together so I can be around for everything that goes on with them. I want to be so in tune with them that in a real life scenario I’d be considered a stalker who needs to be locked up. So in between the editing/review sessions, I’m mandating some author/character family therapy. It’s gonna be a blast.

So, yeah! Everything is going good right now. I’m feeling motivated and happy and excited to see how things continue to go from here.
